Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Officer Rescue Made Possible by SmartMOBILE Technology

Learn how SmartCOP’s SmartMOBILE helped rescue a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation officer after a violent encounter near River Ranch. On January 2, 2021, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation (FWC) officer was patrolling near River Ranch Hunt Camp following reports of illegal hunting activity. After approaching three suspects on the property and detaining their shotguns, the officer was attacked and run over by an ATV.

Thanks to SmartCOP’s law enforcement mobile software, SmartMOBILE, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was able to pinpoint the officer’s exact location using GPS data from his mobile computer. This allowed nearby deputies to quickly respond, locate the injured officer, and transport him to a hospital, where he was later released.

SmartMOBILE’s real-time GPS and unit tracking features played a vital role in the officer’s rescue, cutting down response time and helping dispatch identify the closest responding units.

Following the incident, a massive manhunt involving nearly 100 officers from FWC and surrounding sheriff’s offices tracked the suspects through the night. Evidence, including a submerged ATV and cell phone, led to the arrests of all three individuals involved, two of whom now face attempted murder charges.

SmartCOP is proud that our SmartMOBILE technology helped save the life of an FWC officer. This case shows just how critical mobile law enforcement tools can be during high-risk situations.
