Florida Highway Patrol Launches Electronic Ticketing System with Palm Beach Clerk’s Office
At the time this was written, SmartCOP, Inc. was doing business as CTS America.
Palm Beach County, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and the Palm Beach Clerk & Comptroller’s Office have partnered to launch the first electronic ticketing system in the state. This cutting-edge initiative allows for the electronic transmission of traffic citation images directly from FHP to the Clerk’s Office, improving processing efficiency and eliminating unnecessary courthouse trips.
How the Electronic Ticketing System Works
The new electronic ticketing system Florida Highway Patrol implemented enables troopers to transmit traffic citations, like speeding or seatbelt violations, electronically at the end of each shift. These ticket images are then made available to the Palm Beach Clerk’s system the following business day. This means drivers can pay fines or enroll in traffic school much faster, without having to wait for physical paper tickets to be processed.
“No one likes getting a ticket, but we’re always looking for ways to improve our services,” said Clerk Sharon Bock. “Helping citizens save time by navigating government more efficiently is our goal. That’s why this partnership with the Florida Highway Patrol is so important.”
Benefits for Drivers and Court Operations
- Faster citation processing and case opening
- Improved access to online payment options and traffic school enrollment
- Reduced backlog for the County Criminal Division, which handles hundreds of thousands of citations annually
- Transmission of tickets from patrol vehicles to the Clerk’s system
What About Serious Violations?
For more severe offenses, such as driving 30+ mph over the speed limit or those involving injuries or fatalities, a paper ticket will still be required due to the necessity of a court appearance. However, the majority of common citations will now be processed faster through the new electronic citation system.
A First for Florida, with Plans to Expand
This pilot program marks FHP as the first agency in Florida to electronically transmit traffic citations. Clerk Sharon Bock has expressed interest in expanding the system to include additional local law enforcement agencies in the near future.
Ticket Payment Options for Drivers
Residents can resolve their traffic tickets through multiple channels:
- In-person at courthouse locations
- Online through the Palm Beach Clerk’s Traffic Violations page
- By mail
- At Check Cashing Store locations across South Florida
